Hair is not just hair — when someone's hair is done, their confidence rises, their anxiety decreases, and they show up differently in the classroom, on the job interview, and in the world. We combine direct haircare services, educational opportunities, and community engagement to help people feel supported, connected, and confident.

Care

Care is the foundation of our work. Apex Affect helps individuals access professional haircare services and essential products through partnerships with brands, salons, barbers, stylists, beauty colleges, and community leaders — closing a financial barrier that too often gets pushed aside in favor of other urgent needs. We prioritize students who lack access to regular haircare, individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical or crisis conditions, people with disabilities and specialized care needs, caregivers who rarely prioritize their own self-care, and individuals navigating life transitions such as foster care and re-entry.

Confidence

Hair and mindset are deeply connected to identity and self-expression. When individuals feel confident in their appearance and who they are, it positively impacts school engagement, professional opportunities, and everyday interactions. Through haircare support, workshops, and community engagement, we help participants build confidence, develop a healthy self-image, increase self-awareness, promote mental health and wellness, and show up authentically in school, work, and life.

Community is how our impact grows. Apex Affect partners with schools, beauty professionals, and local organizations to create spaces where people can receive support, share resources, and connect with others — through school partnerships, collaborations with beauty colleges and professional stylists, workshops, trainings, educational experiences, and our virtual Book Club where readers gather to connect through literature and meaningful conversation.

Children, families, seniors, caregivers, school partners, individuals in crisis, people with disabilities, justice-impacted individuals, and community members who need culturally affirming care.

What barrier does it remove?

Cost, transportation, product markups, ADA access, lack of culturally competent providers, work schedules, stereotypes, school resource gaps, and lack of organized support.

What changes because of it?

Confidence increases. Attendance improves. Peer engagement grows. Social isolation decreases. Families reconnect to community. People show up differently when their dignity is affirmed.

School-based · Youth development

Crowned In Confidence

Crowned In Confidence is a school-based youth development program that removes a barrier no other organization is addressing: haircare access for children who need it most.

Working directly with school counselors, Apex Affect serves children ages 4–18 who are experiencing confidence challenges, bullying, or social isolation connected to their appearance.

What changes: attendance goes up, peer engagement increases, and classroom participation grows because children who feel affirmed and cared for show up differently in every room they walk into.

Accessible Haircare & Wellness

Accessible Haircare & Wellness provides direct, dignity-affirming haircare and wellness support for seniors, justice-impacted individuals, individuals in crisis, people with disabilities, cancer patients, people experiencing grief, mobility barriers, housing instability, re-entry barriers, poverty, or social isolation.

This program exists for people whose access to care has been interrupted by life, loss, health, money, transportation, disability, or isolation.

Family capacity

Caregiver Education

Caregiver Education helps parents, guardians, and family members learn culturally appropriate haircare practices so care does not stop at a single appointment.

This program reduces recurring cost, builds caregiver confidence, and helps families support the children and loved ones in their care with dignity and understanding.
