The Apex Affect removes barriers to confidence, dignity, wellness, and community connection by providing culturally affirming haircare, school-based support, caregiver education, community wellness programming, and accessible resources for children, families, seniors, and underserved communities.
Core Impact.
In communities where every nonprofit runs a backpack drive, there aren’t a lot of resources focused on the impact of haircare — and the consequences are showing up in classrooms, counselors’ offices, and the lives of children whose unmet haircare needs are showing up as low confidence, absenteeism, bullying, and disengagement.
The Apex Affect exists to say otherwise.
Through Crowned In Confidence, accessible haircare and wellness support, caregiver education, community outreach, and The Apex Affect Book Club, we remove barriers that affect how people show up in school, in community, in healing, and in life.

Meet Jocelyn Kirkland
Jocelyn Kirkland is a master educator with a Master’s degree and more than a decade in classrooms across multiple states — teaching students, coaching district leaders, and facilitating professional development on how appearance, identity, and belonging shape learning. Her expertise sits at the intersection of education, culturally competent care, and community wellness.
She built The Apex Affect from lived experience and applied expertise: doing her own hair at 12, learning what access truly means from her paralyzed grandmother, and later sitting across from students whose unmet haircare needs were quietly shaping confidence, attendance, and participation.
The Apex Affect exists because that gap was being under-resourced across communities that needed haircare treated as wellness, dignity, and infrastructure — and Jocelyn built the model to change that.
